The idol of Shanidev stolen from the ancient temple of Chandni Chowk recovered, two including the buyer woman arrested

The Ashtadhatu idol of Shanidev, stolen from the ancient Shri Shiv Navagraha temple of the British era located in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, has finally been recovered. In this case, the police have arrested the accused who stole the idol along with a woman who bought it. The idol was reportedly sold for just Rs 4,000 in the Angoori Bagh area near the Red Fort.

Case opened due to devotee’s vigilance

According to temple priest Mukesh Sharma, there was apprehension from the beginning that the stolen idol could be sold in Angoori Bagh area. Based on this suspicion, a devotee associated with the temple was continuously gathering information in the area by taking the photograph of the accused.

Late Thursday night they received information that a suspicious idol was present in a shop in the area. After this the police was immediately informed. Police reached the spot, cordoned off the area and searched the shop. The idol of Shani Dev was recovered during the search. During interrogation, the shop owner woman admitted that she had bought this idol for four thousand rupees.

Big relief before Shani Jayanti

The temple administration and devotees have heaved a sigh of relief after the idol was recovered. Actually, this idol was to be included in the traditional Navagraha Parikrama on the occasion of Shani Jayanti on Saturday. The temple management feared that if the idol was not found in time, the years-old religious tradition might be affected.

Re-establishment will take place after the court process

Priest Mukesh Sharma said that an application will be made in the court on Friday to complete the legal process, after which the idol will be handed over to the temple. After this, the idol of Shani Dev will be installed again with rituals.

On the occasion of Shani Jayanti, special Abhishek, Mahaladdu Bhog and Prasad distribution will be organized on Saturday morning. A grand procession will be taken out at 4 pm, which will pass through many major roads of the surrounding area.
