Shankaracharya retaliated on CM’s statement, said – Will Shankaracharya be considered the only one who supports?
After the controversy regarding Mauni Amavasya bath in Prayagraj, the war of words between the Chief Minister and Shankaracharya has intensified. Swami Avimukteshwaranand has given a strong reaction to the statement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this matter. At the same time, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has also expressed his views in this controversy.
🗣️ Yogi Adityanath’s statement
During the budget session of Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that—
“Not every person can write Shankaracharya. No one is above the law, not even me. Everyone has to live within limits.”
He said that no person can spread confusion in the society by arbitrarily becoming the Acharya of any Peeth.
🔁 Swami Avimukteshwarananda’s counterattack
Swami Avimukteshwaranand gave a sharp reaction to CM Yogi’s statement and said that-
He alleged that-
“BJP wants to make such people as Shankaracharya who support the government. Will the one who supports the government be called Shankaracharya?”
Swami Avimukteshwaranand also claimed that he has received recognition from the Shankaracharyas of other three Peethas of the country and he has been duly ordained.
🏛️ Akhilesh Yadav’s reaction
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also targeted the Chief Minister on this issue. He said-
“No matter what attire someone wears, his speech exposes him. Making derogatory remarks on Shankaracharya is a sin.”
He also took a dig at the government supporters, terming it “verbal violence”.

This controversy started in Prayagraj on February 18 during the bath of Mauni Amavasya. Swami Avimukteshwaranand had accused the administration of misbehavior and assault with the disciples, due to which the matter came to a head.

The ongoing controversy regarding the post of Shankaracharya has now taken a political colour. The rhetoric between the Chief Minister, religious saints and opposition parties has intensified. This issue is expected to deepen further in the coming days.
