Afghanistan cricket world has lost one of its experienced players forever. There is a wave of mourning in the entire country after the demise of former fast bowler Shapoor Zadran. Many current and former cricketers of Afghanistan looked emotional during the last farewell. Star spinner Rashid Khan, wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran and other players paid tribute to their teammate with tearful eyes and performed the last rites.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) while officially confirming the death of Shapoor Zadran said that he died in India after battling a long illness. 38-year-old Zadran was suffering from serious health problems for the last several months and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in New Delhi.
What disease was Jadran suffering from?
According to the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Shapoor Zadran died during treatment in India on Tuesday. He was suffering from a rare and serious disease called stage-4 hemophagocytic lymphohistiosis (HLH). This disease causes excessive inflammation in the body and affects vital organs like bone marrow, liver, spleen and lymph nodes. According to the information, Zadran’s health started deteriorating since October last year. Doctors advised him to come to India for better treatment.
Due to the efforts of Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan and ACB President Mirwais Ashraf, his medical visa was issued soon. After this, on January 18, he was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi. From the month of May, his condition became more serious and he had to be admitted to the ICU. There was some improvement in his health in the initial phase of treatment, but later his condition deteriorated due to repeated infections, dengue and continuous decline in the number of red blood cells. Despite the continuous efforts of the doctors, he could not be saved.

What did ACB write while paying tribute?
The Afghanistan Cricket Board paid tribute to Zadran, writing that “Throughout his career, Shapoor served Afghanistan cricket with honour, courage and distinction. His contributions and achievements will remain an important part of the history of Afghanistan cricket and his efforts in service to the national team will never be forgotten.”
The board further wrote that “On the basis of his struggle, determination and dedication towards the game, he inspired thousands of young players to dream big and take Afghanistan cricket to new heights. With his demise, the cricket world has lost a player whose absence will be felt for a long time.”
