Forget Bumrah and Trent Boult…, this 34 year old fast bowler can make Mumbai Indians champions in IPL 2026.

MI vs KKR: Mumbai Indians have created history by winning their first match of IPL 2026. Mumbai Indians have chased the target of 221 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, which is MI’s most successful run chase. And after 14 years, Mumbai Indians have won their opening match of an IPL season. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton were the heroes of this victory of MI, while Shardul Thakur did wonders in bowling. 34-year-old Shardul also received the Player of the Match award for his excellent performance.

Shardul Thakur broke the opening partnership of KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders, who came to bat first after losing the toss in this match against Mumbai Indians, had a great start. Both KKR openers Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen were playing stormy innings. Both the openers of KKR, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, AM Ghazanfar and Hardik Pandya were thrashing all the bowlers of Mumbai Indians, but then captain Hardik handed over the last i.e. sixth over of the powerplay to Shardul Thakur. Then 34-year-old fast bowler Shardul Thakur bowled lethally for MI and stopped the pace of runs by giving the first three blows to KKR.

Shardul Thakur broke the opening partnership of Kolkata Knight Riders by dismissing Finn Allen on the second ball of the sixth over. Finn Allen was out after playing an innings of 37 runs in 17 balls. After this, Shardul gave the second blow to KKR in the form of Cameron Green in the 9th over and gave a big success to Mumbai Indians. Cameron Green was out after scoring 18 runs on 10 balls.

Shardul Thakur stopped KKR’s run pace by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane.

Ajinkya Rahane was at the other end for KKR and was increasing the pace of runs, but then Shardul Thakur stopped the pace of KKR’s runs by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane. Shardul Thakur gave the first three successes to Mumbai Indians. If these three batsmen had played, KKR would have scored above 250, which would have increased the troubles of Mumbai Indians. In this match against KKR, Shardul Thakur took 3 big wickets for 39 runs in a spell of 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians traded Shardul Thakur from LSG for Rs 2 crore.

Before the IPL 2026 auction, a trade deal was done between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants regarding Shardul Thakur. Mumbai Indians gave Arjun Tendulkar to Lucknow and included Shardul Thakur in their team. MI had included Shardul Thakur for Rs 2 crore. Now Shardul Thakur can prove to be the trump card for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
