- Valuable advice for those using startup buzzwords!
Shark Tank India 6: After opening registrations for its sixth season, Shark Tank India has launched a special new initiative #DontBeATota, which targets a misconception that is spreading rapidly in the startup world. Here’s the misconception: Just speaking the language of entrepreneurship is the same as building a successful business.

What does #DontBeATota remind aspiring entrepreneurs?
At a time when words like valuation, burn rate and EBITDA have become part of everyday conversation, this initiative asks a simple, but very pertinent question: Has this language of entrepreneurship begun to overtake the core business itself? Through humor and a subtle observation of culture, #DontBeATota reminds aspiring entrepreneurs that successful businesses are built not just on a good grasp of startup buzzwords, but on strong conviction, execution, stability and a deep understanding of business fundamentals.
If words don’t work when dealing with sharks…
At the heart of the initiative is a clever parrot mascot, who believes that confidently spouting off a startup’s term is enough to impress the sharks. Armed with fashionable words that he may not even know the meaning of, the parrot represents the misconception that talking like an entrepreneur means being an entrepreneur. But, when it comes time to face the sharks, words like that alone don’t do the trick. Through this mischievous character, the initiative brings out a simple truth: Anyone can recite the language of startups, but only founders who truly understand their business can build a business.
Got right platform to set up business
Over the past five seasons, Shark Tank India has helped bring entrepreneurship into the mainstream conversation, giving founders across the country the right platform to pitch their ideas, get investment and build sustainable businesses. This new initiative carries on that legacy by honoring entrepreneurs at all levels, who have worked tirelessly over the years to solve real problems, understand their customers and build businesses from scratch.
Sharks are on the lookout for such individuals
The #DontBeATota campaign, conceived and produced by The Script Room, calls on founders to come forward with clarity, conviction and a solid foundation. Whether they are first-time entrepreneurs or seasoned professionals, the Sharks are looking for individuals who know their business in depth, who have a story of their own, and who have the drive to consistently move forward.
The campaign was born from this thought
Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt and founder of OFF/BEAT explained, “If startup buzzwords were repeated over and over again, we would all be investing in parrots. That’s the thinking behind this campaign. Over the years, Shark Tank India has helped entrepreneurship become a part of mainstream conversations and we’re very proud of that. But building a company is never just about talking like an entrepreneur.” If not, it’s about solving real problems, understanding your business deeply, and demonstrating the determination to drive the business forward every day.
Registration for Shark Tank India Season 6 is currently open on Sony Live. Founders with a strong business, strong convictions and a clear understanding of the business they are building can register now for the opportunity to pitch to the Sharks. Shark Tank India Season 6 is co-sponsored by Lahori Jira and L’Oréal Paris, while White Gold and Lal Sweets are the partners.
