Sharmada Balu wins Open Singles and Doubles titles at BLR Masters ’24

Sharmada Balu, a professional tennis player, clinched the Open Singles and Open Doubles titles at the BLR Masters 24, a PWR 200 event, on Sunday.

After winning the Open Singles title, Sharmada won the Open doubles title by pairing up with Amrita Mukherjee. However, she conceded the mixed doubles title.

Reacting to her two title-clinching performances, Sharmada took to Instagram to write, “My First Pro Pickleball Gold. These wins were extra special as I got to play at home in front of family and friends.”

Last month, Sharmada and Amrita lost in the Open Doubles quarterfinals. They lost to Sarah Jane Lim and Emilia Schmidt.

Sharmada won the national women’s doubles title and finished runner-up at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship earlier this year. However, she last played an international event in June at the ITF W15 in Dominican Republic.

The 31-year-old found her interest in Pickleball three years after her return to professional tennis. Sharmada was on a five-year break till 2021 from the sport towards the end of 2015 and switched to a 9 am-5 pm job with a corporation as a data analyst.
