Condoling Ruia's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was a great personality of the industry. He said that his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence transformed India's business landscape. He described his demise as extremely sad.

“He also set high standards for innovation and development,” Modi said on the eve. “He was always full of ideas and always discussing how we could make our country better.”

Ruia was also in national bodies and industry associations

Ruia was a member of many important national bodies and industry associations. He was on the managing committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has also been the Chairman of India-America Joint Business Council. Ruia was a member of the Prime Minister's India-US CEO Forum and the India-Japan Business Council.
