Shastri’s absurd statement in praise of Vaibhav, when will we respect others?

Young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who went on the United Kingdom (UK) tour with the Indian team, has not got a chance to play even a single match so far. 15 year old Vaibhav is going to become the youngest Indian player to play international cricket but the team management is continuously keeping him out of the playing XI, due to which the veterans are unhappy. Vaibhav was seen on the bench during the two-match T20 series against Ireland in Belfast.

Vaibhav was not played even in the first match of the 5-match T20 series against England. The match was played on Wednesday (July 1) at Chester-le-Street, but the result could not be achieved due to rain. Batting first, India scored 189 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. After this, due to rain and wet outfield, the England team could not chase the run.

Before the start of the match, former head coach of Team India Ravi Shastri talked about feeding Vaibhav. He said that Vaibhav should have got a chance against Ireland only. Ravi Shastri, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup champion team, praised Vaibhav’s explosive batting but also made an absurd statement in the flow. He used indecent language, which is being linked to the Ireland team.

Shastri should not have said this

Ravi Shastri said on Sony Sports Network that there should be no delay in giving a chance to Vaibhav. When he was asked whether Vaibhav would play in the first T20 against England? In response to this, Shastri said, ‘Hey, that should have been played, man… it should have been played in Ireland only. The wickets there were slow and spongy. If Vaibhav had played there, he would have been slapped.

After this, using indecent language, he said, ‘The ground was also very small. He would take off his pants and give *******. He should definitely have been fed there’ Shastri may have said these things in praise of Vaibhav but he forgot the decorum. This absurd statement of his has gone unnoticed by most of the people, due to which he has been saved from getting into controversy but he should think ten times before saying such things on air.

When will we stop humiliating opposition teams?

Questions were raised over the promo of Sony Sports Network before the Ireland series. He made the Ireland team look as if it would not be able to stand against Team India. When the Irish team won the series, veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle said that it was a strong lesson for those who make indecent promos. Earlier, Star Sports had to face criticism after the Super-8 match played between India and South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026. Star Sports had let South Africa down in the promo before their match. After India’s crushing defeat, it learned a lesson but still our broadcasters and cricket experts are not leaving any opportunity to humiliate the opposition teams.

What else is there for Vaibhav, Shastri said?

Former all-rounder Shastri further praised Vaibhav and said, ‘He has beaten everyone in the IPL. Which fast bowler has been left out? And here you are putting him on the bench. He is only 15 years old. He has no fear. Even if he lasts 2-3 overs, it gives such a start that the middle order can capitalize on that start. We will have to find a place for him.
