He was a cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and was also elected MP from Patna Sahib. Later he joined Congress and then Trinamool Congress. Presently he is a Lok Sabha MP from Asansol, West Bengal.

Hema Malini is also a senior leader of BJP. She has been a Rajya Sabha member and has been winning Lok Sabha elections from Mathura continuously since 2014. He is known for his active role in the party and public relations.
