‘She lost her husband and child for the country…’ Son Tariq Rehman’s emotional post on Khaleda Zia’s passing

Tariq Rahman’s emotional post on Khaleda Zia Death: Begum Khaleda Zia, the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh and head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has passed away. 80-year-old Khaleda, who was ill for a long time, breathed her last at around 6:00 in the morning. Many leaders across the world, including PM Narendra Modi, expressed grief over Khaleda’s death. Meanwhile, Khaleda’s son Tariq Rehman has written an emotional post on his mother’s passing.

“My mother, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, answered the call of Almighty Allah and left us today. Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiyun (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him we must return). For many, she was the leader of the country, an unshakable leader, an icon of democracy,” Tariq Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s son and acting president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, wrote in an ex-post. Mother, Mother of Bangladesh. Today, the country mourns the loss of a guiding figure who shaped its democratic aspirations.”

Rehman further wrote, “For me, Khaleda Zia was a tender and loving mother who dedicated her entire life to the country and its people. Throughout her life, she stood strong against dictatorship, fascism and domination, leading the struggle for independence, sovereignty and the restoration of democracy. Though her life was illuminated by sacrifice and struggle, at home she was our truest protector, a mother whose boundless love gave us strength in our darkest moments.” He endured repeated arrests, denial of medical care, and constant harassment. Yet even in pain, imprisonment, and uncertainty, he never ceased to shelter his family with courage and compassion that was unwavering.”

Khaleda Zia’s son wrote, “For the country, she lost her husband; she lost her child. In that loss, this nation and its people became her family, her cause, her soul. She leaves behind an unforgettable legacy of patriotism, sacrifice and resistance, a legacy that will live on in the democratic consciousness of Bangladesh. I request all of you to pray for my mother. May she be grateful for the deep affection, love and respect shown by the people of this country and the world.” For this, my family and I will always be grateful.”
