Featured Story: Dallas Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday with Water Aerobics Classmates
Turning 100 is worth a celebration, and for Joan Eichner, the obvious spot for her centennial birthday party was at her local YMCA. The Dallas resident celebrated her special birthday with family and friends at the Moody Family YMCA, which she frequents three times a week to do water aerobics in the gym’s pool.
Yes, Eichner is still swimming and living her best life at 100, telling Today that “I don’t feel any older…I try to keep my life going. I love being alive, and I love all the things I do and see. So it keeps me going.”
A recent study shows that regular aerobic exercise could actually make your brain measurably younger. Plus, Eichner notes that her health is in good shape due to physical activity, but also because of her social connection to the aerobics teacher and fellow YMCA members. And there’s science to back up that a healthy social life is important for your brain, as it helps stimulate your mind and memory while also improving your mood.
Both of these things, alongside her plant-heavy diet, explains why Eichner is aging gracefully. But in her Today interview, she shares that she loves wine and chocolate on occasion, sparking her joy just as much as her daily crossword puzzle and weekly church projects.

Hard-Boiling Eggs Is Actually the Healthiest Cooking Method
Egg lovers, listen up. You may think that a simple scramble is the healthiest way to enjoy your eggs in the morning, but hard-boiled eggs may just be superior. Not only does boiling eggs mean there’s no additional sodium or fat included while cooking, but due to the slow-cook method versus the high heat of a pan, the eggs are retaining higher amounts of nutrients like choline and B vitamins. These essential nutrients can help support your brain health and metabolic health, respectively, so dietitians advise incorporating more hard-boiled eggs into your routine.
