Sheikh Hasina’s first shout after the coup… ‘Pack your bags, it’s time to return to your country’, created panic in Dhaka.

New Delhi/Dhaka. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who took refuge in India for months after the coup in Bangladesh, has now sounded the alarm for an all-out fight. Breaking the long silence, Hasina communicated directly with the leaders and workers of her party ‘Awami League’ from Delhi through video conferencing. The attitude he showed during this period has created a stir in the politics of the neighboring country. Giving a clear message to the workers, Hasina said, “Pack your bags and beds, now the time has come to return home and take to the field.”

Declared the interim government illegal, called the elections a ‘joke’

In this high-level virtual meeting held in Delhi, Sheikh Hasina strongly attacked the legitimacy of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. He termed the restrictions imposed on Awami League as unconstitutional and said that the government which itself came to power illegally has no moral or legal right to ban any party. Describing the recent election process as a ‘mockery of democracy’, Hasina claimed that 60 per cent of the voting figures were completely fake and the public had boycotted this election farce.

“Be prepared for mental and physical struggle”

Addressing Awami League workers, the former Prime Minister made an emotional but strong call. He said that the ongoing cycle of oppression against the party will not be tolerated any longer. He appealed to the supporters to unite and take to the streets and be ready for the final struggle for the restoration of democracy. Sheikh Hasina warned that if efforts to keep her party out of the democratic process continued, the Awami League would decide its own strategy and take strict action.

Diplomatic stir intensifies from Dhaka to Delhi

This ‘Return Plan’ of Sheikh Hasina has given sleepless nights to the interim government of Dhaka and the opposition parties. While on one hand this statement has infused new energy among the supporters of Awami League, on the other hand their opponents and the Tariq Rehman led system fear that Hasina’s return may again trigger a period of violence and instability in the country. Let us tell you that the interim government of Bangladesh has already registered many serious cases against Hasina, due to which there is a possibility of a big legal and political conflict with her return.

Will India-Bangladesh relations be affected?

Political experts believe that this aggressive stance of Sheikh Hasina can also present a new challenge to the diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh. This activism of Hasina while living in Delhi is displeasing the present administration of Dhaka. Now all eyes are on when Sheikh Hasina announces the date of her return and what kind of crowd or protest is seen on the streets of Bangladesh after this announcement.
