There was a time when Jaya Bachchan walked out of Amitabh Bachchan starrer mrityudatta‘s screening. Yes, you read it right!

On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan criticised Jaya’s 1998 film Mother of Hazar Chaurasi and told her that they could have “just written an article, why did they have to make a film”. Let’s delve into more details!

Jaya and Amitabh are the biggest critics

In an interview with Reddif in 1999, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that Jaya Bachchan is a big critic of his movies. He revealed that she’s worse than him and walks out of the movie if she doesn’t like it. He further said that Jaya walked out of mrityudatta. He admitted and said, “She didn’t sit through Mrityudata.”

He also talked about the time when he criticised Jaya Bachchan’s 1998 comeback film, Mother of Hazar Chaurasi. Big B said that he liked Jaya Bachchan’s performance but did not like the film. He expressed that he felt the movie was too “verbose”.

He shared, “I felt: why did they have to make a film — they could have just written an article.” When the interviewer pointed out that it was a harsh criticism, he revealed that he told this to her and Govind Nihalani, who directed the film. Mother of Hazar Chaurasi also starred Anupam Kher and Nandita Das.

When Amitabh Talked about Jaya’s comeback

Jaya Bachchan has taken a break from showbiz to focus on her home and two children. She finally made a comeback to films in 1998. Opening up about the same, Big B shared in the same interview that Jaya decided to make her comeback to cinemas because Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan were settled. While Shweta was married, their six foot three inches son was capable of looking after himself and the husband majorly stayed out on shooting locations. So, to keep herself occupied, Jaya got back to acting.

Since her comeback, Jaya opted to be choosy with the roles she picked. After the 1998 film, she was seen in Sometimes happiness, sometimes sadness (2001), Kal Ho Na Ho (2003), Daag In The Chunari (2007), Drone (2008), and Rocky and Rani's love story (2023), among others.
