New Delhi. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar recently had a brief meeting with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. After this conversation, Shivkumar said, “Prayers do not fail.” This meeting has taken place at a time when there are reports of tension between the two leaders regarding the post of Chief Minister in the state. However, both the leaders have been publicly rejecting the issue.

Shivakumar made a tweet in Kannada, the Hindi translation of which is, “Even if efforts fail, prayers do not fail.” This post is being linked to the race for the post of Chief Minister.

According to a PTI report, the brief conversation took place when Rahul Gandhi stopped at Mandakalli airport after attending an event in Gudalur in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district. He spoke to Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar individually and then collectively.

Although, it is not clear what was discussed in this meeting, but the ongoing dilemma regarding the post of Chief Minister and the talk of possible cabinet reorganization is making it important. According to party sources, Congress’ ‘Save MNREGA’ campaign in the state and measures to restore this law were also discussed in the seminar.

Possible talks in Delhi

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has indicated that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar may be called to New Delhi if required. He said that whenever the party considers necessary, it will call both the leaders for talks.

Speculation of change in CM post

The tenure of the Congress government in Karnataka will complete two and a half years on November 20, after which speculations about a possible change in the post of Chief Minister have intensified. The so-called ‘power-sharing’ agreement signed between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar at the time of government formation in 2023 has further increased the discussion on this.

Recently, Siddaramaiah has achieved the distinction of becoming the longest serving Chief Minister of the state by breaking the record of Devaraj Urs. He has expressed confidence that he will complete his five-year term, but has also said that the final decision will be taken by the Congress high command.
