Big relief to Shivraj Singh Chauhan in defamation case

Jabalpur. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has received significant relief in the defamation case. Jabalpur’s MP-MLA special court has acquitted Chauhan, Khajuraho MP V.D. Sharma and BJP MLA Bhupendra Singh in the defamation complaint filed by Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha. This decision has come after mutual consent between both the parties.

Special Judicial Magistrate of MP-MLA Court of Jabalpur D.P. Sutrakar accepted the application to withdraw the case filed by Vivek Tankha. According to the information, Tankha had requested to withdraw the defamation case in the court before the final decision. For this reason all three leaders were acquitted of this case.

Panchayat election related dispute

This matter had emerged from the controversy related to OBC reservation during the Madhya Pradesh Panchayat elections in the year 2021. At that time Vivek Tankha was working as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court on the issue of OBC reservation. Tankha considered some of the statements made by Chauhan to be damaging to his image.

Claim of Rs 10 crore by Tankha

Tankha filed civil and criminal defamation cases against Chauhan, VD Sharma and Bhupendra Singh, seeking damages of Rs 10 crore in the civil case. At the same time, in the criminal case, an appeal was made for action under Section 500 of the IPC.

Supreme Court intervention

When the matter reached the Supreme Court, an amicable solution was advised. After this dialogue started between the two parties. After the meeting in Parliament, Tankha decided to withdraw the cases filed over his election statements.

Advocate’s information

Complainant’s advocate Shyamsundar Yadav said that on the suggestion of the Supreme Court, Vivek Tankha took the step of withdrawing the defamation case. On the basis of mutual consent, the court decided to acquit all the accused.
