Shock to Pawan Kheda: Anticipatory bail plea rejected in the defamation case of Assam CM’s wife.
New Delhi: Gauhati High Court has given a big blow to Congress leader Pawan Khera and rejected his anticipatory bail plea. This case is related to the defamation FIR lodged by Riniki Bhuyan, wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma.
After this decision of the court, Kheda is now left with the option of surrendering and getting regular bail. Earlier, the Supreme Court had also refused to intervene in this matter, due to which their legal situation has become more complicated.
High Court refused to grant advance relief
Gauhati High Court clearly refused to grant anticipatory bail. Earlier, the Supreme Court of India had also refused to give relief in this case.
Temporary relief was received from Telangana High Court
On April 10, Telangana High Court had granted one week anticipatory bail to Pawan Kheda. However, Assam Police challenged this order in the Supreme Court, after which this relief could not last long.
Supreme Court bans transit bail
The Supreme Court stayed the Telangana High Court order, effectively ending the transit bail.
On April 17, the court also refused to lift the stay and rejected the demand to extend the interim protection.
What are the allegations?
Before the Assam Assembly elections, Pawan Khera had alleged that Riniki Bhuyan had passports of several countries, including UAE, Egypt and Antigua-Barbuda.
He had also claimed that he has documents which point towards taking foreign citizenship between 2021-22. He also accused the Chief Minister of hiding this information in the election affidavit.
Sarma couple’s response to the allegations
Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife rejected these allegations and "fabricated" And "lies created by ai" told.
He said that their aim is to mislead the voters and these claims are related to a Pakistani YouTube channel.
Defamation case filed
After these allegations, Riniki Bhuyan has initiated both criminal and civil defamation proceedings against Pawan Kheda.
