Shocking survey: Who will be on the throne of power in Bengal?

Kolkata. Preparations for West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 have now intensified. The election date has not been announced yet, but political parties have started working on their candidates and strategy. With the election temperature rising, TV9 Bangla conducted a public opinion survey in five districts of Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore and West Burdwan to know the public opinion.

Bankura:

BJP’s hold has also strengthened in Bankura district, but Trinamool had won some seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to the survey, out of 12 assembly seats in the district, BJP is leading on 6, Trinamool is leading on 2 and there is a possibility of tough competition on the remaining 4 seats.

Purulia:

The influence of BJP was seen increasing in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Purulia. In 2021, out of 9 seats, BJP won 6 and Trinamool won 3 seats. According to the data of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP is leading on 6 seats in the upcoming assembly elections, while Trinamool Congress is in a strong position on 3 seats.

Jhargram:

In the survey on 4 seats in Jhargram district, Trinamool Congress is ahead on 3 seats. BJP could not win any seat in this district last time. There is a possibility of a tough contest for the remaining one seat.

West Burdwan:

In West Burdwan, the performance of both Trinamool and BJP seems equal in 9 seats. According to the survey, Trinamool is ahead on 3 seats and BJP is ahead on 3 seats, while tough competition is expected on 3 seats.

West Midnapore:

There are 15 assembly seats in this district. In 2021, Trinamool won 13 seats and BJP won 2 seats. Trinamool was leading on 14 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to the survey in the upcoming assembly elections, Trinamool is leading on 9 seats, BJP is leading on 1 seat and tough contest is expected on 5 seats.

If we analyze the total 49 assembly seats of these five districts, then according to the survey, Trinamool is ahead on 17 seats and BJP on 16 seats. There are indications of tough competition on the remaining 16 seats. It is believed that this time there is going to be a close contest in the Bengal elections.

Although a public opinion survey does not always guarantee the actual results of an election, it does provide a glimpse of the political situation and public preferences. Before the 2026 assembly elections, this survey is an important signal for the parties to make strategies and understand the heartbeat of the voters.
