Sholay Re-released: Why watch ‘Sholay-The Final Cut’? How much has the new version changed? Will we see something new in the climax of the film?

Sholay – The Final Cut release: Fifty years after hitting the theaters and rewriting cinema history, the iconic film Sholay returns to the silver screen with an unseen ending. It is bringing something new for those fans who have grown up watching one of the biggest entertainers of the century again and again. This release is happening on the 50th anniversary of the film and it will be shown in 1,500 theaters.

The restored version of Sholay will give a different experience to the fans who will watch it again and today’s generation will get a chance to feel the magic of the film restored in 4k and Dolby 5.1. In the special edition, the film’s original ending, in which Thakur kills Gabbar with his spiked shoes, will also be shown, along with two more deleted scenes.

Today it is difficult to imagine that Sholay was defeated by a mediocre film Jai Santoshi Maa in 1975, when both films were released at almost the same time. Ramesh Sippy’s film broke many records and became the highest grossing film of the year, but Jai Santoshi Maa earned more profit. Would anything have been different if Gabbar had died in the original Sholay? The answer to this question will now be seen in the restored version of the film.

What is the difference between the original climax of both the films?

Sholay, as fans know, ends with the villain Gabbar Singh being handed over to the police after Thakur, who plays Sanjeev Kumar, lets him go. However, in the restored film, Gabbar Singh is unable to escape Thakur’s wrath and this changes Sholay forever. Javed Akhtar’s son, director Farhan Akhtar, revealed unknown details about Salim Javed’s original ending to reporters during a promotional event.

Farhan said, “In the original climax, Sanjeev Kumar, aka Thakur, had to kill Gabbar Singh with his bare feet to take revenge after losing his family and weapons at the hands of a dacoit.”

He further added, “This was the emotional core of the film – Thakur plans revenge after his hand gets chopped off. We get lost in Jai-Veeru’s friendship, but the real spine was the honest cop who pursues the dacoit who ruined his life.” Farhan said, “Because of the emergency, they had to change it, and the original ending is now available. Actually he cries then – when he crushes Gabbar with his feet.”

Dharmendra recently told about his favorite scene of the film in a conversation.

In conversation with FHF director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Dharmendra told that his favorite scene of the film was when Amitabh Bachchan’s character dies, which changes the entire tone of the film. Talking about preparing for the scenes in the film, the actor said, “Nothing is difficult for me” as he gets into the character completely, leaving the real Dharmendra behind. “This is God’s gift.”

Sholay, as fans know, ends with the villain Gabbar Singh being handed over to the police after Thakur, played by Sanjeev Kumar, frees him. However, in the restored film, Gabbar Singh is unable to escape Thakur’s wrath and this changes Sholay forever.
