Shopian Encounter: Top Lashkar commander Zakir Ganai killed by security forces, weapons found with the terrorist
Shopian. A terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been killed during the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Shopian area of South Kashmir. The body of top Lashkar commander Zakir Ganai has been recovered. Weapons have also been found with the terrorist. The search for a terrorist is going on. Currently a search operation is being conducted in the area.

This anti-terrorist operation was launched four days ago after receiving concrete intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. The operation was going on till the time of writing this report. The killed terrorist has been identified.
According to officials, the terrorists were seen on surveillance cameras installed in a dense grove in Mimandar area on July 3. This area is spread over seven villages. After this, joint teams of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and started a massive search operation.
The Army’s counter-insurgency unit Victor Force had deployed additional soldiers in the area, so that all possible escape routes of the terrorists could be closed. According to security records, both the terrorists are residents of Kulgam district of South Kashmir. Among these, Zakir is said to be associated with Lashkar since the year 2024, while Latif had joined the terrorist organization last year. Zakir’s name was also in the Pahalgam attack.
