Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’ row: Vithabai’s family demands title change

Shraddha Kapoor’s next film Eetha has generated so much buzz with its teaser release, people are praising the actress’s look, movie scale, music and picturization.

The first look of this biopic was attached to the film Cocktail 2, which leaked online and set the internet by storm.

However, later the makers officially posted it on social media, and it is getting a lot of positive responses from viewers.

Meanwhile, a controversy also surrounded the project that tells the story of late Indian dancer and Tamasha artist Vithabai, who was a Maharashtrian folk dancer.

At first, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) raised an objection over the name of the film; now, the family of folk artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar echoed similar sentiments.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungamathe dancer’s sons Kailash and Rajesh Narayangaonkar, along with her grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar, have expressed disappointment over the title and appealed to the makers to change it.

Apart from the name, they believe a biopic celebrating Vithabai’s extraordinary life and achievements should bear her name so that future generations continue to recognise the woman who played a defining role in shaping Maharashtra’s Lavani and Tamasha heritage.

As of now, director Laxman Utekar and production house Maddock Films have not issued any statement regarding the controversy or the demand to rename the film.

Alongside the 39-year-old actress, the film also stars Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in important roles.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 28, coinciding with the Rakshabandhan festivities.
