Shreyas Iyer believes in answering critics with his bat, even if he doesn’t speak Gujarati
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer believes that the answer was given not by speaking but with his bat. That is why he is responding to every injustice done to him through his work. The list of injustices done to Shreyas Iyer is very long, but till now he has responded to each one. He has changed the direction of the wind every time, and now the situation is such that only the name of Shreyas Iyer is enough.
The latest case of injustice against Shreyas Iyer is related to May 26. On this day, KKR celebrated the completion of one year of winning its third IPL title. But the captain under whose leadership they had won the title, Shreyas Iyer, kept them away from the celebration. Shreyas Iyer responded to KKR’s failure on 26 May when, under his captaincy, he got the Punjab Kings license to play in Qualifier 1. This is also a reply to the injustice done by KKR by not retaining him for IPL 2025.
The injustice done to Shreyas Iyer in Team India did not stop. But here too, his work spoke in response. He played his last Test for India in February 2024. He was dropped from the team due to poor performance. Iyer was already angry at being left out of the Test team, but BCCI’s decision to exclude him from the contract list citing indiscipline added insult to injury. Shreyas Iyer quickly responded to this injustice. He scored many runs in Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the 2024-25 Ranji season, he scored 454 runs at an average of 90.40. He scored 325 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he scored 345 runs at an average of around 50. Seeing these strong performances one after another by Shreyas Iyer in local cricket, BCCIA finally had to change its decision and gave Iyer back the lost honor of the central contract.
There was discussion about both Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy and batting in IPL 2025. Meanwhile, discussions also started regarding his return to the Indian Test team. After seeing what Shreyas Iyer did after being dropped from Team India’s Test team in February 2024, everyone supported his selection for the England tour. The speculations were also similar. But when the team was announced, Shreyas Iyer’s name was also not in it. The chief selector of Team India said that there is no place for Iyer in the current team. If we look at the last Ranji season, Shreyas Iyer scored runs at an average of 90.40. His overall average in first class cricket is also more than 48. Then why does he not get a place in the red ball team, Agarkar said that this is beyond comprehension. But one thing is certain that, the way Iyer is giving answers to all the injustices one after another through his work, it is hoped that one day his work will be better than Agarkar’s statement about himself.
