Shreyas Iyer Statement after Becoming T20 Captain: The Indian cricket team has to tour Ireland and England at the end of this month i.e. June. During this period, first there will be a series of 2 T20 matches with Ireland. After this, the Blue Army will play a series of 5 T20 and three ODI matches against England. Meanwhile, BCCI announced the squads for England-Ireland and Asian Games 2026. In which the biggest news was about the removal of Suryakumar Yadav from the captaincy.

Iyer became T20 captain

On Saturday, June 6, BCCI appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of Team India for Ireland-England and Asian Games. If we look at Suryakumar Yadav, then under his captaincy the Indian team had won the title of T20 World Cup 2026. Although Team India performed brilliantly under the captaincy of Surya, his individual performance was under question. This was the reason why Shreyas Iyer was appointed the new captain. Now Iyer’s first reaction after becoming the captain has come to light.

It is an honor for me- Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, who took over the captaincy of the Indian T20 team after his brilliant performance in IPL 2026, is currently leaving his mark in the Mumbai T20 League as well. Just hours after being announced as the new T20 captain of Team India on June 6, he displayed excellent batting performance while playing for Sobo Mumbai Falcons. Shreyas played an important role in his team’s victory by playing a vital inning of 61 runs and was adjudged Player of the Match. After the match, when he was asked about getting the captaincy of the Indian team, he said that it is a matter of pride and honor for him to lead the country. He also expressed his love and respect towards all the fans who have supported them over the years.

Shreyas Iyer, who will take over as the captain of the Indian T20 team in place of Suryakumar Yadav, is going to face many important challenges. Iyer will be returning to the playing eleven of T20 International cricket after almost three years, so he will be expected to perform better in both the roles of captain and batsman. The team management and selectors have expressed confidence in him, after which now everyone’s eyes will be on his performance.

Apart from this, Shreyas Iyer will also have to build a strong rapport with the players present in the team. There will be additional pressure on him as he gets the responsibility of captaincy at the international level for the first time. The selectors have given him this big responsibility while making changes in the leadership, hence his decisions as well as batting performance will be closely assessed in the upcoming matches.
