Shreyas Iyer follows Mohammed Shami’s way of busting fake news about his injury

Shreyas Iyer recently hit out at a social media user for spreading fake news about his shoulder injury. According to Cricbuzz, he will miss Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura after picking up a shoulder injury. Taking to X, he urged the media to do some homework before publishing news.”Guys, seriously, let’s do some homework before publishing news,” Iyer wrote whole, quoting a fan who posted. “Shreyas Iyer set to miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game – Cricbuzz.” The user later deleted the post after Shreyas’ comment.

Mumbai will take on Tripura on October 26 at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala. According to the report, the BCCI sources revealed that he needs a week to recover.

The right-handed batter scored 142 runs off 190 balls against Maharashtra in the second game of the season. Mumbai won the game against Maharashtra, which was a big relief for the reigning champions after they lost the opening fixture to Baroda.

“It doesn’t matter to me what the people think from outside. I know the needs and demands of my body and I will take a call accordingly. I hope my team will support me,” he had said after his match-winning display against Maharashtra.

Iyer was dropped from the Indian Test team midway through the series against England after his failures. He also lost his central contract for refusing to play in one of the Ranji Trophy games. However, it was revealed that he was carrying an injury at the time.

For the record, Iyer could be unnecessary targeting the media to stop the circulation of the news. It happened in Mohammed Shami’s case, where he slammed the media houses for reporting that he was injured again and could miss Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

He called it fake news and urged the fan to rely on updates from him or the board. However, he was proved incorrect when India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Shami was indeed injured and the management didn’t want to take an under-cooked fast bowler to Australia.
