Shreyas Iyer: India's star batsman Shreyas Iyer has been appointed the captain of the Mumbai T20 team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Under the captaincy of Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL title last season and that is why the selection committee of MCA has expressed confidence in him. Iyer taking charge of the team means that Ajinkya Rahane, who is leading Mumbai in the current Ranji Trophy season, will play under Iyer's captaincy.

The selection committee has also included Prithvi Shaw in this team, who was kept out of the Ranji Trophy match and was asked to improve his fitness. MCA believes that Shaw has shown considerable improvement and is useful in white-ball cricket.

A source said, 'Iyer will lead the Mumbai T20 team for Syed Mushtaq Ali and Shaw has also been included. Rahane will play under the captaincy of Iyer because MCA feels that Iyer is the right choice for this format. Meanwhile, all-rounders Shivam Dubey, Musheer Khan and Tushar Deshpande have still not fully recovered from their injuries and that is the main reason why MCA did not pick them. Mumbai will face Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Nagaland, Services and Andhra Pradesh in their league matches.
