Shreyas Iyer overturned the history of India’s ODI cricket, broke Kohli’s ‘Virat’ record

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team performed brilliantly in the second ODI against Afghanistan and registered a big win by 170 runs. With this victory, Team India achieved an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. While captain Shubhman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored centuries in the match, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer made a special achievement in his name.

Iyer completed 3000 ODI runs

Shreyas Iyer completed 3000 runs in ODI cricket during his inning of 26 runs. With this achievement, he also left behind a record of Indian cricket’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli. Iyer touched the 3000 run mark in just 72 innings, whereas it took 75 innings for Virat Kohli to reach this milestone.

Shreyas Iyer has now jointly reached second place in the list of Indian batsmen who have reached 3000 ODI runs in the fewest innings. Former opener Shikhar Dhawan had also achieved this feat in 72 innings.

Shubman Gill is number-1 in this matter

Indian captain Shubman Gill remains at the top of this list. He set a new standard by completing 3000 ODI runs in just 62 innings. Gill had achieved this feat in the first ODI match against Afghanistan.

Special achievement in terms of balls also

If we talk about Indian players who have scored 3000 ODI runs in the least number of balls, then Shreyas Iyer is at third place. He faced 3049 balls to reach this milestone.

At the top position in this list is former captain and 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev. He had completed 3000 runs in just 2995 balls. The special thing is that he is the only Indian batsman who used less than 3000 balls to reach 3000 runs. Shubman Gill is in second place with 3016 balls.
