Shubman Gill May Get A+ Contract, Kohli & Rohit Likely Demoted

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to introduce some major changes in its central contracts for the next season, as per new reports coming in. They are looking at bringing India’s Test and ODI captain, Shubman Gill, to the A-plus category, promotion-wise, and at the same time the board is expected to make a decision on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s central contracts at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Rohit, Kohli central contracts key issue at BCCI’s annual AGM
The BCCI main council will hold its annual AGM on December 22. The Press Trust of India (PTI) has reported that the decision-makers are likely to consider the revision of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s central contracts.
It should be noted that Kohli and Rohit have stepped back from T20I and Test, thus they are only part of the ODI squad now. The board is deliberating over different options including the withdrawal of central contracts for the two leading players as they are not in BCCI’s all-format player category anymore.
Rohit and Kohli are at present in the topmost A-plus category. However, that may not be the case if their contracts are changed; a reduction in the ranking of the two legendary players might be seen in the final list.
Shubman Gill to be elevated to A-plus category
Besides, there is a suggestion in the report that BCCI might consider elevating Shubman Gill to A-plus category, considering he is the Indian captain in Tests and ODIs. Moreover, the Punjab lad is also the vice captain of the Indian T20I side and he may soon take over Suryakumar Yadav in the position after the 2026 T20 World Cup.
It is anticipated that Gill will join the ranks of the top category together with the seasoned allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and the brilliant fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
BCCI central contracts: How much are the contracted players paid?
As per the current policy, the A-plus players get a whopping INR 7 crores from the BCCI. Players in the A-category get INR 5 crores annually, while B and C category players are given INR 3 and 1 crores, respectively, by the apex cricketing body in India. Currently, Shubman Gill is in the A-category, and his yearly income will skyrocket by a gigantic amount of INR 2 crores if he is elevated to the A-plus group.
