Team India suffered a big blow before the Perth Test; Star opener out due to injury
IND vs AUS 1st Test Match: The first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is to be played in Perth from 22nd November. Captain Rohit Sharma is not going to be available in this match due to personal reasons, so who will open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal? This has been a big question. At the same time, many reports claimed that Shubman Gill can start the innings in place of Rohit in the first test, but now it is finding difficult for Gill to play.

Actually, Shubman Gill was injured while fielding at WACA, after which he may be out of the first Test. According to the latest report by Cricbuzz, India's preparations for the opening Test in Perth were dealt a blow when Shubman Gill suffered a left thumb injury while taking a catch at the WACA on Saturday (November 16). Initial reports have revealed a hairline fracture and as a result, Gill will miss the opening match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Optus Stadium from next Friday (November 22).
The report noted that considering that several batsmen were out and caught in the slip cordon on the second day of India's match simulation, it is unclear at what level Gill injured himself. But he was seen on the field at first slip for the entire first session and most of the afternoon. While the official decision from the team management at this stage is that Gill has not been ruled out of the first Test, he will struggle to feature due to a broken thumb.
The early signs certainly don't look very promising, and with Rohit Sharma's availability for the first Test after the birth of his son still uncertain, India may have to take some tough decisions regarding their top order. KL Rahul was present at the WACA on Saturday but did not take the field. He has not done so since suffering a painful injury to his right elbow on the first day of the centre-wicket practice session.
However, according to the team management, there are no injury concerns for KL Rahul, with scan reports reportedly coming back good and he should be in contention to open the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal next week. Without Rohit and Gill, the performance of India's top-3 players on paper will not be anything special and it will be interesting to see how the Indian selectors compensate for their absence.
