Siddha Katyayani Temple of Vrindavan, where Gopis performed penance for Krishna

Shri Katyayani Shaktipeeth, located in Radhabagh, Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, is not just a temple but a symbol of faith of crores of people. It is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati. According to mythology, when Lord Vishnu dismembered the body of Mother Sati with his Sudarshan Chakra, his ‘Kesh’ i.e. hair fell on this holy land. For this reason it is also worshiped by the name of ‘Kesh Peeth’.

 

The most special thing about this temple is that both power and devotion can be seen together here. While on one hand, there is a grand Ashtadhatu statue of Maa Katyayani, the sixth form of the Goddess, on the other hand, one can also have darshan of Lord Shiva, Lakshmi Narayan and Ganesh ji here.

According to religious beliefs, in the Dwapar era, the Gopis of Braj performed rigorous penance at this place on the banks of Yamuna to get Lord Shri Krishna as their husband. He had pleased the goddess by worshiping this form of her. That is why this tradition continues even today. Devotees from across the country and abroad, especially unmarried girls, make vows and worship here with the wish of removing obstacles to marriage and finding their desired life partner.

The present form of the temple has been established under the guidance of Swami Kesavanand Maharaj. This temple has special significance during Navratri. During this period there is a festive atmosphere for nine days. Especially on the sixth day, special worship of Mother Katyayani is done.
