SIM Binding Update- WhatsApp-Telegram users will get relief, Government of India has extended the deadline for SIM Binding.

Friends, recently the government had implemented SIM binding rules for security reasons, which caused a lot of trouble to people, but once again the Indian government is planning to extend the deadline for implementing SIM binding rules for messaging apps, which will provide much-needed relief to both companies and users. Department of Telecommunications (DoT) can extend this deadline to December 2026, let’s know the complete details.

Why is the deadline being extended?

Messaging platforms were required to implement SIM binding by February 2026.

Companies have reported many technical difficulties.

These include testing, software updates, and compatibility issues between different operating systems.

To address these concerns, the government is now considering how to implement it in a phased manner.

This extension will give platforms enough time to upgrade their systems smoothly.

What are the SIM binding rules?

Under SIM binding, messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram will have to strictly link user accounts to their registered mobile numbers.

Users will be able to log in only on those devices which have a registered SIM card.

Without a SIM, access to accounts may not be permitted.

For web or linked devices, users may need to re-authenticate every few hours (about six hours).

Its purpose is to strengthen the verification of user identity and prevent abuse.

What effect will this have on users?

Its main objective is to prevent cyber fraud and misuse of telecommunications identities, especially those coming from international sources.

Similar systems are already used in banking and payment apps, which improves overall security.

Users may face slight inconvenience due to frequent logins or dependency on SIM,

But in the long run, this will significantly improve digital security and reduce fraudulent activities.
