SIM Box is a special machine in which hundreds or thousands of SIM cards can be installed. It is used to make foreign calls appear as local calls. Due to this, the real location of calls and messages is hidden and criminals can steal money as well as personal information.
This fraud starts with obtaining SIM cards with fake or false identity. These are inserted in the SIM box and connected to the server and dongle. After this, millions of SMS are sent daily, which include phishing links, fake bank alerts or hoax messages. As soon as a person clicks on a link or shares information, criminals gain access to his or her bank account or personal data.
Threat of SIM Box Scam and National Security
SIM Box Scam is not limited to financial losses only. This can lead to theft of a person’s identity, emptying of bank accounts and misuse of personal data. Due to foreign calls appearing as local, it is difficult to track the criminals, due to which it also becomes a threat to national security.

Report suspicious messages immediately on the government cyber crime portal cybercrime.gov.in. Keep the spam filter on in your phone and if you suspect any kind of fraud, immediately contact the bank and change the password.
