Singapore bus driver returns passenger’s US$35,000 diamond ring
In a Facebook post on Monday, Singapore public transport operator SBS Transit praised Teo Lai Huat for his honesty and sense of responsibility, local news outlet AsiaOne reported.
“The ring may have been worth thousands, but the honesty, empathy, and sense of responsibility Lai Huat showed without a second thought were truly priceless. Thank you, Lai Huat, for looking out for our passengers with so much heart!”

The ring’s owner, Clarissa Tan, also thanked Lai Huat in a letter published in The Straits Times’ forum section on May 14.
She boarded bus number 10 in Siglap at around 10 p.m. on May 11 following a night out with friends, and accidentally left the diamond solitaire ring on the bus when she got off on East Coast Road.
“The ring is precious to me because of both its monetary and sentimental value.”
She contacted SBS Transit the next morning and was relieved to learn that Lai Huat had found the ring during a routine check at the end of his shift at Kent Ridge Terminal and handed it over to the office.

“When she arrived to collect the ring, she was so overwhelmed with relief and gratitude that she burst into tears,” SBS Transit said in the Facebook post.
“Acts of integrity and honesty such as his deserve to be recognised and celebrated,” Tan wrote.
“I hope SBS Transit and the public will recognise Mr Teo for his exemplary conduct. People like him make a real difference to the lives of others.”
The man himself said: “It was the right thing to do. I just hoped the ring could be returned to its rightful owner as soon as possible.
“She burst into tears when she saw it again.
“I could tell how much it meant to her.”
