Singapore Changi Airport, home to the world’s largest indoor waterfall, was named the world’s best airport for layovers by global data service provider TripSim.

The agency analyzed 50 of the world’s busiest international airports to find out which ones truly deliver the best layover experience, based on six equally weighted factors: restaurants and cafés, shops, entertainment amenities, showers and on-site hotels, connectivity and tech amenities, and rest zones.

“Changi earned high in every category but its entertainment options, tech infrastructure, and quiet rest zones stood out the most,” it said.

The airport is famous for its indoor gardens and movie theaters but its reliable wifi and lounge options also makes layovers more comfortable.

Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates ranked second, followed by Indira Gandhi International Airport in India and Hong Kong International Airport.

Arber Abdullahu, a travel expert at TripSIM, says the rise of high-quality layover airports reflects a broader shift in how people travel.

“Layovers used to be something travelers just tolerated,” Abdullahu explains.

“Now, people actively notice whether an airport makes those hours easier or harder. Good food, fast internet, and somewhere to sit or rest quietly can completely change how a trip feels.”
