A Singapore man has been awarded a 19-month prison time for stealing SGD500,000 (US$370,000) from his company to fund purchases of Pokemon trading cards and a Rolex watch, among other items.

Linberg Yeo Yu Wei, 27, received the sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to cheating, The Straits Times reported.

Yeo, an employee of biomedical equipment supplier SPD Scientific, took money from the firm between August and October 2023.

As an accounts executive, he created non-existent entries in the payment requests and deceived the CEO that these were legitimate payments to vendors, according to the prosecution.

One of his fraudulent payments, however, was discovered in November 2023 and reported to the police.

He was arrested earlier this month, and at the time still had at least SGD400,000 of the cheated amount.

He used the siphoned money on a SGD17,900 second-hand Rolex watch, an iPad and Pokemon trading cards.

He also spent it on gambling, holidays, and paying credit card bills.
