Singapore’s biggest supermarket chain FairPrice freezes prices on 100 items to ease cost of living
Supermarket operator FairPrice Group will roll out a price freeze on 100 of its most popular daily essentials in a bid to ease cost-of-living pressures amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The freeze, running from Thursday to May 31, will cover pantry staples including rice, cooking oil, eggs, fresh and frozen pork and chicken, milk and detergent, the company said in a press release.

“This price freeze is part of FairPrice Group’s wider commitment to keep daily essentials within reach for all, amidst the growing impact of economic and geopolitical volatility on Singaporeans’ daily lives,” the group said, as reported by AsiaOne.
Customers belonging to vulnerable groups and citizens eligible for subsidies will receive doubled discounts, from 3% to 6%, during the price freeze period.
Group CEO Vipul Chawla said the measures reflect the company’s founding mission to keep staples affordable since its establishment during the 1970s oil crisis.
“Food and groceries make up over 20% of the average household budget; and even more for lower-income families,” said Chawla, adding that the initiatives aim to help Singaporeans manage current uncertainties.
FairPrice is also continuing discounts on its housebrand products under its Best Sellers for Less campaign.
The campaign offers savings of up to 36% on FairPrice Own Brands products, including rice, facial tissues and frozen processed food.
Launched on March 19, the campaign will run for 12 weeks until June 10.
