Changi Airport’s newly-upgraded terminal 2 in Singapore has been recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful airports for 2024 by Prix Versailles, a prestigious international architectural award.

The other five airports honored are Zayed International Airport Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Felipe Ángeles International Airport Zumpango in Mexico, Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Midfield Satellite Terminal 1 in Thailand, Logan International Airport Terminal and Kansas City International Airport, both in the U.S.

These six airport projects were praised for their aesthetic qualities and their impact on travelers’ experiences, according to Prix Versailles.

Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 reopened last year after over three years of renovations. The upgrades doubled the number of automated check-in kiosks and bag drop machines and expanded immigration halls to accommodate more automated lanes, Channel News Asia reported.

The terminal’s nature-inspired design features green columns adorned with plants and a captivating 14-meter-tall digital display, The Wonderfall, which mimics a cascading waterfall in the departure hall.

In the transit area, visitors can enjoy a two-story Lotte Duty Free Wines & Spirits store, complete with a robot bartender crafting custom cocktails. The upper level offers a lounge where travelers can sample 18 different types of whiskey.

Since 2015, the Prix Versailles has been held annually at UNESCO to spotlight the finest contemporary architectural projects globally.

According to its official website, the award recognizes projects that align with the principles of intelligent sustainability, factoring in their ecological, social, and cultural impacts.
