SIR will be held in 22 states and union territories in April – Election Commission

New Delhi, 19 February. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday asked 22 states and union territories to complete the preparation work related to Special Intensive Review (SIR) as soon as possible as the process is likely to be started from April. Once this process is completed, all states and Union Territories (UTs) will come under its purview.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officers of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana and Uttarakhand, the Election Commission said the order for the all-India SIR of the voter list was given in June last year.

The SIR process has been completed in Bihar and is ongoing in nine states and three Union Territories. In Assam, the ‘Special Review’ instead of SIR was completed on 10 February.
