“Sir! You have to pay for duty here”, video of Lucknow police constable goes viral
Lucknow: A case has come to light from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, which has raised big questions on the credibility of khaki. A constable posted in Lucknow Police Line has exposed the raw details of the alleged corruption game going on inside the department. A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which constable Sunil Kumar Shukla has directly made serious allegations against the IPS officers. The constable claims that illegal extortion is being done every month in the name of duty in the police department.
Actually, in the viral video, Sunil Shukla has expressed his grief and appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for justice. The constable says that a well-planned extortion mechanism is working within the department, which is patronized by officers holding high positions. After this revelation, there has been panic from Lucknow Police Commissionerate to the government.
“Yogi ji, Rs 2000 is demanded in return for duty”
Constable Sunil Shukla has mentioned the complete ‘rate list’ and working methodology of corruption in the video. According to him, financial pressure is put on the lower level employees i.e. constables and Diwans. It is alleged that to get duty at a good place and to get convenient posting, every policeman has to pay Rs 2000 per month. Sunil used harsh words and even called some IPS officers ‘black Englishmen’. He alleged that the entire system is flourishing only at the instigation of these big officials.
How does this recovery network work?
In the video, the constable has explained in detail how this money reaches from bottom to top. It is being told that RI (Reserve Inspector), calculation in-charge and guard commander play an important role in this network. Sunil claims that the guard commander collects money from the soldiers and then forwards it to the officers. The constable has termed it as ‘zamindari system of corruption’.
The surprising thing is that according to the constable, this game is not limited to Lucknow only, but a similar syndicate is working in many other districts of the state also. In fact, such allegations of internal corruption have been made in the police department in the past as well, but it is rare for a constable to come forward and challenge senior officers directly.
Mathematics of black money of lakhs
The mathematics of the recovered amount explained by Sunil Shukla in the video is shocking. According to him, in one roll call of Lucknow Police Line there are more than 500 employees. Of these, about 400 employees are sent on regular duty. If Rs 2000 is taken from an employee, one calculation works out to be illegal earnings of Rs 8 lakh every month. The constable says that there are four such calculations in Lucknow Police Line, which means that every month the ‘collection’ goes up to lakhs of rupees.
Investigation order and police’s side
After the video spread like wildfire on social media, top police officials have taken cognizance of it. Lucknow Police Commissioner has ordered an impartial investigation into the entire matter. The department says that the allegations made by the constable will be seriously investigated and if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him. According to the local people and the discussion in the corridors of the department is that this video has caused a lot of damage to the image of the police.
At present, this matter has gained momentum and the opposition parties are also preparing to corner the government on the issue of law and order as well as internal discipline and corruption of the police. Now all eyes are on the investigation report to see whether there is actually a syndicate of ‘Black British’ running or it is the result of some personal resentment.
