Siraj’s funny ‘water boy’ remark after World Cup win goes viral

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj left fans amused with a witty response while reacting to India’s triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India secured a historic title win after defeating New Zealand national cricket team in the final, marking their third T20 World Cup triumph.

Siraj’s humorous response goes viral

During a post-match interaction with broadcasters, Siraj was asked about his emotions after the victory and the team’s journey through the tournament.

Reflecting on the moment, he said, “It was God’s script. I was not in the team initially and then I got a surprise call, and now we are champions.”

When the presenter asked about the frustration of not always being part of the playing XI, Siraj responded with humour that quickly went viral.

“Haan bahut hi bada role hai hum dono ka, bahar baitheke paani pilana back to back, bat uthana,” he joked, saying that their role was to sit outside, provide water to teammates and hold their bats.

Standing beside him, teammate Kuldeep Yadav burst into laughter at the remark.

Limited appearances in the tournament

Siraj featured in just one match during the tournament, against the United States national cricket teamwhere he delivered an impressive performance by taking three wickets for 29 runs.

However, he did not play another match during the competition.

Kuldeep Yadav also appeared in only one game in the tournament — against the Pakistan national cricket team — where he claimed one wicket.

Team spirit behind the victory

Despite limited appearances, Siraj emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive team environment.

He said players naturally want to be part of the playing XI, but sometimes team combinations require certain members to sit out.

“No person is important; the team is important,” Siraj explained, adding that players fully support whatever decision benefits the team.

India’s historic achievement

India’s victory in the 2026 edition added to their previous T20 World Cup titles in 2007 under MS Dhoni and in 2024 under Rohit Sharma.

The latest triumph came under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadavfurther cementing India’s dominance in the shortest format of the game.

Siraj’s light-hearted comments after the match highlighted the camaraderie within the squad and the collective spirit that played a key role in India’s successful campaign.
