Siraj’s injury became a matter of concern before the Super Eight match in Ahmedabad –

Tezzbuzz Desk- The Indian team is currently in Ahmedabad for the Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup 2026, where it will face South Africa. This match is reminiscent of the previous 2024 World Cup final and the winning team will enter the semi-finals.

But before this important match, the Indian team has suffered a setback due to injuries. Already before the World Cup, the team was worried about the fitness of many players. Jasprit Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma have already been ruled out of one match, while Harshit Rana was ruled out of the tournament completely due to injury. Mohammad Siraj got a chance in place of Harshit, who took three wickets in the match against America.

Now Siraj himself has got injured before the match against South Africa. During practice at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the ball hit Hardik Pandya’s shot and hit the knee of Siraj’s left leg. Siraj looked in pain and came out of the nets limping. This incident has increased the concern of the team management, because Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh remain the main options for fast bowling.

Indian team’s young player Abhishek Sharma also remained in focus during practice. Coach Gautam Gambhir was seen having a long conversation with him and gave him many technical tips. Later Abhishek practiced catching and spin bowling. Bowling coach Morne Morkel said that there was no special discussion on Abhishek, but he is expected to perform well in this important phase of the World Cup. Morkel said that Abhishek is hitting the ball well and he just needs a good start.

The team management has also requested the curator to improve the condition of the pitch, so that the players can perform on slow pitches.

Thus, India is focusing on its fitness and strategy before the challenging encounter against South Africa. Siraj’s injury and the role of fast bowlers can be an important decision of this match.
