SL vs ENG 1st ODI Playing 11: Charith Asalanka-led side will square off against Harry Brook-led side in the 1st match of the ODI series in the England tour of Sri Lanka 2026 on January 22 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
England and Sri Lanka have a rich record in the ODI format, playing 79 games where the Three Lions have won 38 times, while Sri Lanka have emerged victorious on 37 occasions, and three matches ended with no result.
They have clashed on 12 occasions in the ODI World Cup, where both sides have secured six wins each.
England has already announced their playing 11, but Rehan Ahmed comes in for Will Jacks as the latter is sidelined due to illness, and Sri Lanka will be fielding their side, checking for the combinations.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Speaking at the toss, Charith Asalanka said, “We are going to bat first. It looks like a good pitch, and we want to put a good score on the board.”
“I think Wanindu and Dushmantha have been rested for the World Cup. Dhananjaya de Silva comes in on the side after a long time. Dunith Wellalage, Jeffrey Vandersay, and Dhananjaya can bowl,” said Asalanka.
Sri-Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first.

“We did really badly on that last Pakistan tour, but when we look back, we’ve been doing great. We want to do our basics right,” added Charith Asalanka.
Meanwhile, Harry Brook said, “We would have had a bat first as well. It is what it is. We will go out there and try our best.”
“Zak Crawley comes in to open the batting with Ben Duckett. Will Jacks is ill, so Rehan Ahmed is coming in,” added Brook.
“It’s massive playing against a strong side in their own conditions. Really looking forward to the challenges it presents and hoping we can go away with a few wins,” concluded Harry Brook.
