SL vs PAK: Pak batsmen trapped in Wanindu Hasaranga’s spin

Questions have been raised on the preparations of Pakistan cricket team before the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan had to face defeat in the second match of Sri Lanka vs Pakistan T20 series played in Dambulla.

Sports News: The T20 World Cup 2026 is going to start from February 7, but before that a three-match T20 series was played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The second match of this series took place on 11 January. Due to rain, the match was played in 12-12 overs, and under DLS rule, Sri Lanka won by 14 runs.

Batting first in the match, Sri Lanka scored 160 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 12 overs. In reply, Pakistan team could score only 146 runs and that is why Sri Lanka won the match.

Rain changed the equation of the match

In this match played on January 11, the overs were reduced to 12 due to rain. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first, but this decision cost them dearly. Sri Lankan batsmen took full advantage of the limited overs and batted aggressively and scored big.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 160 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 12 overs. However, the team did not have a good start and opener Pathum Nissanka was out without opening the account. after this:

  • Kamil Misra – 20 runs in 8 balls
  • Kusal Mendis – 30 runs in 16 balls
  • Dhananjay de Silva – 22 runs in 15 balls
  • Charith Asalanka – 21 runs in 13 balls

After the middle order, in the end captain Dasun Shanaka batted in a stormy style and scored 34 runs in just 9 balls. Whereas Janith Liyanage scored 22 runs in 8 balls taking the score to 160. Mohammad Wasim Jr. was the most successful in bowling for Pakistan, who took 3 wickets, but other bowlers failed to stop the runs.

Pakistan faltered while chasing the target

The Pakistan team, which set out to chase the target under DLS, had a very poor start. The openers returned to the pavilion early:

  • Sahibzada Farhan – 9 runs in 7 balls
  • Sam Ayub – 6 runs in 5 balls

After this, Salman Ali Aga struggled from one end and played an explosive inning of 45 runs in just 12 balls. Mohammad Nawaz also scored 28 runs in 15 balls, but the rest of the batsmen could not stand against the Sri Lankan bowling. Wanindu Hasaranga became the biggest reason for Pakistan’s defeat. Sri Lanka’s star spinner broke the back of Pakistani batsmen with his brilliant bowling. Hasaranga took 4 wickets and maintained constant pressure. Pakistan’s batsmen completely failed to understand his spin.

Ultimately, Pakistan team could score only 146 runs for 8 wickets in 12 overs and lost the match by 14 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series for his all-round performance.
