SLN Medical College & Hospital expands with new 650-bedded teaching Hospital in Koraput

Koraput, Dec 19: In a major boost to Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure, the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput is set to expand with the construction of a new 650-bedded teaching hospital.

This significant development is expected to strengthen medical education while enhancing healthcare services for residents across the undivided Koraput district, which includes neighboring areas in Kalahandi, Nuapada, and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Originally established in 1908 as a dispensary, SLNMCH was upgraded to a Local Fund Hospital in 1937, with just 47 beds.

By 2004, the hospital had relocated to its current location, expanding its capacity to 188 beds. Over the years, the facility has grown, now offering 300 functional beds. The decision to upgrade the hospital into a medical college was made with the goal of providing advanced medical care and education, benefiting patients across the region.

The ongoing construction of the 650-bedded teaching hospital will significantly increase the medical college’s capacity, providing cutting-edge healthcare services and medical education.
