Slogans raised against Mohammad Yunus in America, protest against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

There have been slogans in New York against Mohammad Yunus, who is leading the interim government of Bangladesh. The protesters raised slogans like “Go back” against him. Mohammad Yunus is in the US to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. According to reports, the protesters raised slogans against Yunus for attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. People raised slogans of “Go back and leave the post”. During this time people were holding posters on which messages like “Sheikh Hasina our Prime Minister” were written. It is worth noting that Yunus was sworn in as the head of the interim government on August 8 after Sheikh Hasina left the country and the Parliament was dissolved.

Protesters in the US have alleged that the 84-year-old Nobel laureate has come to power by playing dirty politics. A protester, Sheikh Jamal Hussain, said, “Muhammad Yunus has gained power through unconstitutional and illegal means. He played dirty politics and many people were killed. Till now our elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not resigned. We want to tell the United Nations that Yunus is not representing the Bangladeshi people here.”

They don't care about minorities – protesters

Another protester DM Ronald said, “We want peace. We believe in secular democracy. After gaining power by force they started killing Hindus, Muslims and Christians. They are burning. Mosque is burning, Gizer Church is burning. Our people are not safe in Bangladesh.” Another protester Dr Rahman said, “I am here to protest against the illegal, unelected person representing 117 million people of Bangladesh. He is not elected, he has been appointed by the students. He does not care about minorities or anyone. He has illegally taken over the country.”

Yunus will meet Biden

According to the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry, Yunus has planned several high-profile meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA, including a meeting with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday, Dhaka Tribune reported. The Bangladesh chief adviser will address the UNGA General Assembly on September 27. Meanwhile, on Monday, Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and discussed several issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and India.
