Smart dust collector machines launched for the first time in Delhi, air will be cleaner
To control the increasing air pollution in Delhi, state-of-the-art pole-mounted dust catcher machines have been installed for the first time in the capital. These machines have been started from Kirtinagar area of West Delhi, where currently 21 machines have been installed on trial basis. The special thing is that they have been installed on street light poles, due to which no additional space is required.
This is a machine based on filter-less technology, which is capable of cleaning pollutants like dust and smoke present in the air. One machine can purify about 3 lakh liters of air in an hour. The machine draws in polluted air through the inlet, cleans it and releases it through the outlet.
A special collection box has also been installed with the machine, in which the pollutant particles released from the air are collected. When about 2.5 kg of pollutant collects in the box, an automatic notification is sent to the control centre. After this the box is replaced and the machine starts working again. There is a plan to later compress the collected pollutants and use them in the form of bricks.
At present these machines are being operated by electricity, but in future, preparations are being made to run them on solar energy through solar panels. If this pilot project proves successful, then it will be implemented on a large scale in other areas of Delhi also.
This technology was selected under the Innovation Challenge organized by IIT Delhi. Experts believe that these machines can prove effective in reducing pollution at the local level. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also inspected the project. After successful testing, this initiative can play an important role in controlling the polluted air of the capital.
