According to the company, this innovation can ultimately help in creating real-time alert systems that can warn users even before they become unconscious, let us know the complete details about it.
Vasovagal syncope occurs when the heart rate and blood pressure drop suddenly, often due to stress, leading to temporary unconsciousness. This condition is usually not life-threatening, but a sudden fall can cause serious injuries, such as fractures or head injuries.
According to Professor Junhwan Cho of the Department of Cardiology at Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital, about 40% of people may experience VVS at some point in their lives. With timely warning, people can go to a safe place or seek help before they become unconscious.
Researchers examined 132 patients showing symptoms of VVS. Using the Galaxy Watch 6’s Photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor and AI-based Heart Rate Variability (HRV) analysis system, the watch successfully predicted fainting attacks up to five minutes in advance, with an accuracy rate of 84.6%.
