Smith’s comeback flops in Ashes, Bradman again on top! Australia’s bad start on Boxing Day
New Delhi. The fourth match of the 5-Test Ashes series between Australia and England is being played at Melbourne Cricket Ground i.e. MCG. In this Boxing Day Test, England captain Ben Stokes has won the toss and decided to bowl first. His decision has proved correct so far as Australia faltered in the first session of the first day itself. By the lunch break, the Kangaroos have lost 4 wickets at the score of 72, which also includes big names like Travis Head and Steve Smith. Steve Smith’s comeback in the Ashes was not good. He became the victim of Josh Tong on a personal score of just 9. With this wicket, Steve Smith has suffered a huge loss in his batting average as captain in the Ashes.
After the first Test against England, Steve Smith’s average in the list of players who scored at least 500 runs as captain in the Ashes was 112.28, while Sir Don Bradman was second in this list with an average of 90.07.
Now after Smith’s dismissal on a personal score of 9 in the Boxing Day Test, the average has come down to 89.80, due to which Bradman has once again reached the first position. This list also includes legends like Bob Simpson, Allan Border and Steve Waugh.
90.07 – Don Bradman
89.80 – Steve Smith
81.30 – Bob Simpson
58.57 – Alan Border
56.90 – Steve Waugh
56.75 – Graham Gooch
56.00 – Warwick Armstrong

Talking about the match, the England team, which had lost the series 0-3, won the toss in the fourth match and chose to bowl first. Due to the brilliant bowling of Josh Tong, England gave 4 blows to Australia on the score of 72 in the first session. Travis Head was out after scoring 12 runs, while Labuschagne scored 6 runs. Usman Khawaja is still at the crease.
