Social Media Ban: After Karnataka, now children will not be able to use social media in Andhra Pradesh too, Naidu government will ban it
Amravati. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said the state government will ban the use of social media for children below 13 years of age. Also, he said that the decision to stop 13-16 year old children from using social media will be taken after a consensus is reached.
Speaking on the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly, he said that steps will be taken within 90 days to ban social media for children below 13 years of age. At the same time, what to do for children of 13-16 years of age is being discussed. The decision will be taken after consensus is reached.
Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced that the use of social media for people below 16 years of age will be banned. Last month, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalpudi Anita had told the Assembly that the government was considering a law to prevent school students from using social media.
He had said that the sub-committee has met twice so far and various issues have been discussed at length. The sub-committee reviewed the measures being implemented in states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In January, Information Technology and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh had said that the government would study the legal framework for age-appropriate access to social media.
The government will ensure that social media remains a safe space and minimizes its harmful effects, especially for women and children. Children are continuously using it, which is affecting their attention and studies.
The Group of Ministers is examining the possibility of restricting or banning access to some social media platforms for 13-16-year-olds. Let us tell you that on February 10, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had appealed to the Center to consider age-based regulation of social media.
