Social media guidelines issued for Indian Army, strictness on use of Facebook-Insta

Indian Army: The Indian Army has issued new guidelines for its soldiers regarding running social media. In the new guideline, instructions have been issued regarding the social media apps of the soldiers and their operation.

In the past, after cases of soldiers becoming victims of honey trap through social media, the Army had made the rules for using social media very strict for the soldiers. After this, now the new guideline is being considered very important.

What’s in the guidelines?

In the guideline, instructions have been given regarding the methods of use of social media platforms by the soldiers. It has been told what they can and cannot do on online discussion forums. According to media reports, in the new guidelines, the Army has allowed its soldiers to use Instagram. However, the soldiers will have to follow one condition for this. The condition is that they will be able to use Instagram only in view-only mode. In simple words, army soldiers and officers will be able to use Instagram only for viewing and monitoring information. They will neither be able to chat with anyone nor will they be able to like or dislike anyone’s posts. You will not be able to comment or give your opinion on any post or online platform.

There are also instructions regarding apps like Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal. They are allowed to share only general and non-sensitive information on these platforms. Such information can also be given only to known and trusted people. It will be the sole responsibility of the user to share information by ensuring the correct identity of a person.

Can be used in only view mode

Use of YouTube, X, Quora platforms will be limited to viewing or learning information only. There will be no permission to upload any kind of own content on these. LinkedIn can only be used to upload resumes or obtain information related to jobs and employees. According to army officials, this decision has been taken with the aim of protecting the safety of soldiers and sensitive information.
