A man in Taiwan has taken legal action against his mother after she discarded his prized “Attack on Titan” manga collection without his consent, even going so far as to call the police to report the incident.

The 64-year-old woman from Chiayi City found herself in legal trouble after disposing of her son’s collection, which consists of 32 volumes.

According to reports from the Taipei Timesshe and her 20-year-old son lived together, and she had reportedly grown tired of his expanding manga collection.

In February, while encountering the “Attack on Titan” volumes on the staircase and noticing that they were damp, the mother decided to throw them away in an attempt to clear some much-needed space.

Upon discovering the missing collection, the son became furious and contacted the police. During the investigation, the mother admitted to discarding the books but expressed a desire to reconcile and apologized for her actions. She explained that she believed the comics were trash due to their moisture damage.

Despite her apologies, the son remained resolute in pursuing legal action. The Chiayi District Court ruled that the mother’s actions constituted a violation of the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, as reported by TVBS News.

Following the court hearing, the judge imposed a fine of NT$5,000 (US$160) on the mother for destroying her son’s property. Additionally, she was ordered to complete five days of community service.

The court emphasized that, despite their familial relationship, the mother must respect her son’s rights to his belongings.

“Attack on Titan” is a widely acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series that depicts humanity’s struggle for survival against giant humanoid creatures known as Titans, exploring themes of freedom, sacrifice, and the complexities of human nature.
