Sonam Wangchuk case: Wife Geetanjali challenges High Court order in Supreme Court, demands immediate hearing on Monday

After the Delhi High Court rejected the petition seeking transfer of Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital, his wife Dr. Geetanjali Angmo has approached the Supreme Court. He has requested the Chief Justice (CJI) to hear the matter on Monday, demanding immediate hearing of the case.

‘His health was not bad, he was forcibly taken to the hospital’

According to ANI, Dr Geetanjali Angmo claimed that Sonam Wangchuk’s health was not deteriorating, yet she was forcibly taken to the hospital. He said that all his health parameters were normal in the last medical report. According to him, Wangchuk’s potassium level was 4.3 and all other parameters were also found to be normal.

He alleged that the administration forcibly admitted him to the hospital by taking him on a stretcher citing health concerns, whereas the only need was for medical examination and informing the family.

‘Concern about health is just a show’

Questioning the intentions of the government and the hospital administration, Dr. Angmo said that if there were really concerns about Wangchuk’s health, the entire process would have been followed in a transparent manner. He alleged that the way he was taken to the hospital by sending plainclothes policemen was not in accordance with democratic values. According to him, the claim of health concern was a mere “sham”.

‘The government was scared of the proposed march’

Geetanjali Angmo alleged that the government was worried about Sonam Wangchuk’s proposed march. He said that if Wangchuk had gone out on the march, a large number of people would have joined in his support. He claimed that the administration wanted to stop this public support.

He said that now after this whole incident, people’s enthusiasm and support will increase more than before. He also accused the police, judiciary, education system and media of misuse and said that this development has raised more questions on the intentions of the government.
